They say that one of the best things that you can give to yourself is the time to open up and know yourself more. Now, we know that can be an overwhelming idea. It is not a feat, if you really think about it. You may tell yourself that the thought can be detrimental to the busy lives that we live. Apart from that, you have to admit that there is that sense of fear of possibly uncovering a part of yourself that you do not understand or may not like. But in essence, there lies the beauty in getting to know yourself because you reveal and expose yourself on a part that is untouched without realizing the greater potential in it.

Getting To Know Me

One of the best things that Neuro-Linguistic Programming or NLP can bring about to your life is the opportunity to self-discovery. While self-discovery in itself is a powerful benefit you can get out of getting in touch with yourself, it is the self-transformation aspect of it that comes after which makes NLP a formidable tool in your quest for understanding your inner nature.

This allows you to set personal boundaries on areas in your life where you can be flexible or not. You have a better understanding on what is comfortable for you and when to say no to certain aspects of your life.

5 Exercises to Get to Know Yourself

These benefits of getting to know yourself are definitely enticing. But, we have to admit that reaching into the deepest of our souls is not as easy as reciting the ABCs. However, do not worry. Here are a few very simple exercises that you can do to get acquainted to a part of yourself you never realize is there. Be ready to beam that wide smile and greet a new you with a hearty “Hello!”

Pause for a While

This is may be the simplest exercise that you can do but can also be difficult to do. We have been living in a world where we are constantly moving and always on-the-go. Take a few moments off your daily grind, sit down and allow your thoughts to flow through naturally. Enjoy a cup of afternoon coffee without stressing about your work reports. You will be surprised at how different your perspective will be on your career, personal life and relationships if you slow down even for a brief moment.

Enjoy Your Own Company

One of the best things that you can do to get to know yourself even better is to spend time with yourself. It may sound weird, but set up a date with yourself and have dinner at your favorite restaurant or go on a day out with yourself. You will be able to identify and realize some of the things that you are willing to do and explore when you are out on your own and having a grand time.

Write It Down

A simple exercise to do is to write your thoughts down on a journal. Put into writing the thoughts that come to your during the times when you pause and reflect on your life. This will give you a tangible reference on your self-realizations.

Sensory Acuity

Sensory Acuity is a technique used in NLP that allows you to be consciously aware of what is going on around you and inside of you by using all your senses. More often than not, we are unaware of everything that is going around us and fail to realize the beauty that is within us.

A great exercise example is to take a closer look at an everyday item that you have with you, say, a watch. Take a closer at its colors, the way the hand moves, the digits and every single detail. By doing this, you get a better appreciation at this seemingly common everyday item. This is the same thing as taking closer at yourself and dissecting your intricate details.

Personality Typing
