Do you remember the time when you were asked as a young kid what your dream is when you grow up? I bet you dream big! Some of you would have probably imagined about becoming a distinguished doctor, a successful business mogul or a wandering world traveler.

Isn’t it amazing how exaggerated and elaborate our dreams were when we were young? And then, we blame reality for bursting our bubbles. Most just settle with what is there and think that their once youthful and bright dreams are not really for them and is simply just a dream, after all. But deep within you know that really is not the case. Of course, dreams can come true. But what is the best way how to achieve your dreams? There is no better to do it than the Disney way.

The Magic of Disney

Just look back at the times when you were young. You probably have not thought about it then, but the classic Disney movies that you once loved have really inculcated in your mind and heart, that wishes, goals and dreams do come true. Remember that song from the 1940s adaptation of Pinocchio, which is also the representative song of The Walt Disney Company, When You Wish Upon A Star? The lyrics says that:

When you wish upon a star Makes no difference who you are Anything your heart desires Will come to you. If your heart is in your dream No request is too extreme When you wish upon a star As dreamers do.

This really is not just the only Disney song that tells of achieving your desires, which for most of us is our benchmark of attaining success that we want in life. There’s Dory telling Marlin from Finding Nemo to just keep swimming.

And young girls would probably know that the well-loved classic Disney princess Cinderella has also inspired them that when you “Have faith in your dreams and someday your rainbow will come smiling through. No matter how your heart is grieving, if you keep on believing, the dream that you wish will come true.

This kind of mantra and belief stems from the very man behind these timeless classics – Walt Disney himself. There are countless of times when Walt Disney has inspired people of all ages to pursue their dreams. That is why it is not surprising that he has become a success model in Neuro-Linguistic Programming (NLP). In fact, a strategy was developed based in his ability to put dreams into reality in three different stages.

The Disney Creativity Strategy may sound like some sort of art technique. But, it is about adopting resourcefulness and creativity in planning for achieving successful endeavors in life. It seeks to ignite inspiration in gaining new insights and ideas and put these into fruition. This epitomizes the belief that we have stated earlier many times over, that dreams are not impossible and can become a reality for you.

It is actually a simple, yet powerful technique, that was developed by one of the NLP Movers – Robert Dilts. It is based on how Walt Disney has efficiently managed to organize a team of creative people into coming up with brilliant ideas and drive them to put his vision into realization.

The Disney Creativity Strategy shows how you can instinctively alternate between the three roles involved in the different stages or processes. It is one of those NLP techniques that incites a change in belief, which catalyzes transformation and drives to achieve success and desires to happen.

What Do I Want?

The first role exemplifies what Walt Disney once said that “First, think. Second, believe. Third, dream. Lastly, dare.” The Dreamer role is an imagination tank, one who can weave dreams and kindle ideas with no boundaries. But more importantly, this role knows that all things are possible and understands that you need to move on to the next stage to do this.

What Must I Do?

This leads to the Realist role where you think through whether these dreams are realistically feasible. It encourages you to assess, analyze, evaluate and organize plans of action. This is the part where timelines are set, frameworks and resource needs are developed and milestones are established. As what Disney puts it, “The way to get started is to quit talking and begin doing.” Achieving your goals in life is a work in progress, after all.

What Could Go Wrong?

But, it is also important that you put the Critic role in full gear. This when you put your dreams to work. Look for those obstacles, difficulties and consequences. Be mindful of what could be missing with your ideas, your plan and your action. Essentially, you are to check and refine the strategies you have come up with to achieve your goals. Sometimes, it could mean going back to the drawing board and rework a whole new set of action plan without losing sight of your desire in the first place.

It may have been a long time, but maybe it is about time to dig deep back to your childhood memories and scour through all those dreams you have dreamed. You are never too old and it is never too late to dream big once again.

The thing with NLP Belief Change and the Disney Creativity Strategy is that these reframe your mind to think that everything is possible. This is extremely important when it comes to realizing your life goals, no matter how grand it may be. You can take those small baby steps without you realizing that you have actually achieved your dreams.

I found this inspiring quote. It may not be Disney’s, but it does encapsulate what the whole Disney Creativity Strategy is all about.

Never let life impede in your ability to manifest your dreams.
